AFCC returns for its 15th edition from 23 - 26 May at the National Library Building Singapore with the theme of "Curiosity".

The Asian Festival of Children's Content (AFCC) returns for its 15th edition in-person from 23 - 26 May 2024, taking on the theme of "Curiosity".Curiosity drives exploration, innovation and the imagination. It can open up possibilities, expand one's worldview and spur children to embark on a path of discovery. How can we nurture a child's curiosity through books and encourage them to explore the world around them? How can modern technologies be harnessed to cultivate children's curiosity and engagement in reading? In this interactive lecture presentation, Emila will share her expertise and insights on illustrative techniques and her creative journey beyond traditional illustrations. Writing Watercress* Date: 25 May 2024 Time: 10am - 11.30am Venue: The Pod (L16), NLB Featuring: Andrea WangHailed by the School Library Journal as "a powerful story sure to awaken empathy and curiosity", Andrea Wang's Watercress tells a semi-autobiographical story exploring the importance and role of memory, traditions and family history. In this lecture, Andrea will share about how her life experiences have inspired her multi-award winning book and how "writing what you feel" instead of "writing what you know" has served as the heartbeat behind her work as an acclaimed children's author. 來自清水的孩子: 通过漫画揭示战后台湾* The Boy from Clearwater: Uncovering Post-war Taiwan Through ComicsDate: 25 May 2024 Time: 4pm - 5.30pm Venue: The Pod (L16), NLB Featuring: 周见信 (Zhou Jian Xin)本讲座探讨了蔡焜霖的故事和漫画小说形式的改编，以及周見信在描绘 1949 年后台湾的政治和白色恐怖所采用的艺术选择。献给生活故事和被遗忘和忽视的历史的粉丝。 This lecture explores the adaptation of Tsai Kun-lin’s life story to the graphic novel format and the artistic choices utilised by the artist in portraying the politics and trauma of post-1949 Taiwan. [CANCELLED] Baek Heena: Storytelling Through Miniature Worlds* Date: 26 May 2024 Time: 10.30am - 12pm Venue: CTPL Programme Room 1 Featuring: Baek HeenaSince her first book, 2020 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award winner Baek Heena has continually captivated audiences with her innovative storytelling style. Her picture books are miniature worlds, created out of diverse materials that set the stage for the characters to tell their stories. Join in this lecture where she will delve into how she uses techniques from film animation, sculptural and lighting design to bring depth and complexity to her works.
