About this event

What to Expect?

Watch Bendemeer come alive in the early morning! Join us on a behind-the-scenes walk through the market and food centre as stallholders and hawkers prepare for the day ahead—sorting fresh produce, marinating meats, and firing up woks long before the first customers arrive. Experience the quiet dedication that fuels our hawker culture, and get a rare glimpse of the work that brings Singapore’s favourite breakfast dishes to life.

About After Hours @ My Community

Singapore is a city which never sleeps. A plethora of activities continue deep into the night, even as most of us head to bed. Follow us on an unforgettable adventure in our neighbourhoods and meet the unsung heroes keeping the island’s essential services running after dark.

You might be fast asleep or up late on Netflix. As you rest or unwind, a whole workforce of graveyard shift workers disperses across the country to ensure the island’s essential services operate seamlessly.

Our neighbourhoods thrive because of the dedication and unwavering commitment of these hardworking individuals. Make a trip to our neighbourhoods during MCF2025 and express our gratitude to the heartland heroes!

About your Guide

Corliss Chong is a passionate and personable Singaporean guide who believes that the soul of a city lies not just in its landmarks, but in its markets, kopitiams, and the quiet routines of its people. As a licensed tourist guide and long-time volunteer with My Community, she designs and leads immersive heritage experiences that bring Singapore’s neighbourhoods and hidden corners to life.

Corliss is best known for her guided tour After Hours @ My Bendemeer —a programme under My Community Festival. There, she introduces visitors to fishmongers, vegetable sellers, and hawker stallholders, showing the quiet industry and camaraderie that sustain our everyday lives. Through her storytelling, even a bag of bean sprouts or a bowl of minced meat noodles becomes an entry point into heritage, memory, and identity.

Beyond these curated experiences, Corliss offers private walking and cycling tours that explore Singapore’s built and natural landscapes—parks, temples, heritage trails, and wet markets—with warmth and enthusiasm. She is deeply attuned to the rhythms of local life and takes pride in giving her guests a personalised window into what she calls “the Singapore you don’t find in guidebooks.”

Fluent in both English and Chinese, Corliss is also a seasoned traveller herself, which allows her to connect easily with international visitors. Whether she’s leading a small group through a historic district or chatting with an elderly stallholder over kopi, Corliss brings a gentle curiosity, a listening ear, and a deep respect for the people she meets.

4 Things To Know About The Festival

  • It is curated in collaboration with heritage practitioners, business owners, legacy brands as well as a number of religious and cultural institutions.
  • It builds upon the demand for culinary travel, cultural exploration and activity-based travel experiences - evident from the consumption habits of locals and tourists alike.
  • It aims to connect people from all walks of life through the festival platform in the hopes that they may go on to expand their social networks.
  • The festival has taken on an added dimension as a result of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. It serves as a means in which to re-introduce locals back to the island’s ethnic enclaves and to support local, legacy establishments in a triumphant display of resilience as a community.
