About Hoo Hung Chye
Hoo Hung Chye is a leading figure in Singapore’s funeral services industry, known for his efforts to modernise death care while upholding dignity, tradition, and compassion. As Co-founder of Singapore Funeral Services (SFS Care Pte Ltd) and Executive Director of the Association of Funeral Directors Singapore (AFD), he has spent over two decades transforming the way Singaporeans experience grief and remembrance.
Hoo is recognised for pioneering Singapore’s first fully automated columbarium, merging technology with heritage to create respectful and serene memorial spaces. From enhancing wake venues with modern amenities to advocating for digital payments and transparent pricing, he has raised industry standards and reshaped public perceptions of funeral work.
In his role at AFD, Hoo actively champions professional development, regulatory compliance, and ethical practices across the sector. He has worked closely with authorities to implement changes that promote accountability, including the adoption of e-invoicing and record-keeping systems.
Beyond operations, Hoo is a passionate educator and regular speaker at public festivals and seminars, including My Community Festival, where he demystifies death practices and encourages open, meaningful conversations about loss. For Hoo Hung Chye, every farewell is not just a ritual—but a final act of care, respect, and cultural continuity.
About Ang Ziqian
Ang Ziqian is the fourth-generation funeral director of Ang Chin Moh Funeral Directors, a heritage company founded in 1912. Taking on the mantle of leadership at a young age, Ziqian has spent over two decades reimagining the funeral profession in Singapore—combining tradition with innovation, and compassion with professionalism.
As Managing Director, he introduced transformative changes such as the "No Ang Bao" policy to promote transparency and dignity, and spearheaded premium offerings like Mount Vernon Sanctuary and Algordanza Singapore memorial diamonds. In 2012, he founded the Ang Chin Moh Foundation, which advocates for greater public understanding of dying, death and funerals. Through exhibitions, dialogues, and outreach, the foundation has become a leading voice in end-of-life education.
Ziqian is also a regular speaker and cultural ambassador. At events like My Community Festival, he opens up his work to the public—demystifying death care, funeral rituals, and the emotional labour behind each farewell.
