With advanced techniques, this AHA 2022 Award winner for Conservation was a project grounded in extensive research, comprehensive industry knowledge and thorough site investigations. The efforts included addressing long hidden building issues and sensitive handling of diverse materials such as timber, lime plaster and cast iron to systematically restore the building to support contemporary needs.
Recognising the importance of building maintenance and upkeep, the project team also developed a heritage management plan to guide long-term building Using advanced techniques, this recent restoration project was grounded in extensive research, comprehensive industry knowledge and thorough site investigations. ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Mr Low Soo Sing
Over the past 20 years, Soo Sing has gathered extensive experience handling large-scale development in both private and public sectors. From there, he also acquired special expertise in coordinating statutory compliance and processes of cross-disciplinary and multiple-complexity projects.
He was a Malaysian Government Public Service scholar. He graduated with a bachelor of Architecture Honour and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Architecture from Heriot-Watt University, UK in 1988.
Upon graduation, Soo Sing join Raymond Woo and Associates Architects and worked as a project architect in various large-scale commercial and residential projects. In 1999, Soo Sing join CPG Consultants and advanced professionally as Vice-President in the Security Division where he undertake the role of project directors and qualified persons in various Institutional and Civic projects.
In 2006, Soo Sing join Aedas Pte Ltd and was involved as the Statutory Team Leader in the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort Development where he has contributed significantly in the successful delivery of the project.
Mr Ho Weng Hin
Trained as an architect at NUS, Weng Hin did his postgraduate specialisation in heritage conservation at the University of Genoa, Italy. He is partner of Studio Lapis, an architectural conservation consultancy involved in major local and regional projects such as the Capitol development, restoration of the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, and The Peninsula Yangon. Its work has garnered accolades such as the URA Architectural Heritage Awards and the UNESCO Asia Pacific Heritage Awards.
Ho is a founding director of the Singapore Chapter of the ICOMOS and represents Singapore as expert voting member on its International Scientific Committee on 20th Century Heritage. He also serves on government advisory panels on heritage policy and planning. Ho is Adjunct Senior Lecturer at his alma mater, where he co-led the UM-NUS Joint Studio in Cultural Heritage Studies.
He is co-author of several books including the groundbreaking Our Modern Past: A Visual Survey of Singapore Architecture, 1920s-70s, and was a former Editor of The Singapore Architect.
