<P><SPAN>Join us for a performance and talk by Borneo Visual Artist and Musician Alena Murang over a period of two days (22 & 23 March 2017). </SPAN><BR></P>
<P><BR></P>
<H2><STRONG>The Artist</STRONG></H2>
<P CLASS="font_8">Growing up in Borneo, Alena was surrounded by a rich natural environment, and cultures of many different indigenous cultures of the island. She is part Kelabit - one of the smallest ethnic groups on the island.</P>
<P CLASS="font_8">Borneo is ingrained in the person that she is. Taking this and coupling it with her travels, her aspirations, her battles and her questions, she strives to communicate her perspectives and ideas through visual art and through her music.</P>
<H2><BR><STRONG>Stories from the rainforests of Borneo</STRONG></H2>
<H2><STRONG></STRONG>22 March, 7:30pm - 8:30pm, F202</H2>
<P><SPAN>Alena Murang will be presenting stories, myths and analogies of fast-fading tribes - Kelabit, Kenyah and Penan - from Sarawak through projections of her own artworks, acapella songs and tunes played on the sape (a Borneo traditional instrument) on the first day. </SPAN><BR></P>
<H2><BR><STRONG>Preserving Cultural Traditions</STRONG></H2>
<H2><STRONG></STRONG>23 March, 7pm - 8pm, F208 </H2>
<P><SPAN>An avid supporter for traditional craft-making and arts education, Alena will be sharing her journey through her use of art to preserve and promote her Borneo, Kelabit culture and tradition on the second day.</SPAN></P>
