Imagine waking up one day and not being able to speak, read or write. All the thoughts swirling in your head but no words to express them...

About this Event

Based on a true story, "Aphasia: Hope is a Four Letter Word" is about a man who defied the odds to rebuild his life despite having severe communication difficulties after a massive stroke.

In 2005, Carl McIntyre was a successful stage and TV actor in southeast USA when he suffered a major stroke which resulted in severe aphasia.

He was given a timeline of 18 months to recover. After that, experts predicted little to no improvement to his communication impairment. With perseverance, incredible courage and a huge dose of humour, Carl overcame the seemingly insurmountable obstacles to redefine his life and to do good with it.

Carl stars as himself in this movie and has received rave reviews for his performance!

This award-winning short film will resonate with anyone who has struggled to meet life's daunting challenges.

Aphasia SG is a not-for-profit organisation that supports persons with aphasia and their caregivers in Singapore. This is the first time Aphasia SG is organising a free (pay-as-you-wish) film screening with the support of Central CDC Singapore. All proceeds collected will go towards programmes for persons with aphasia and their caregivers in Singapore.
