About this event

In celebration of World Lung Cancer Day, 365 Cancer Prevention Society (365CPS) and co-partner AstraZeneca are bringing back Are You at Risk?, Singapore’s only sponsored lung cancer screening campaign for eligible lower-income individuals, from 1 August to 15 November 2025. Now in its third year, the screening has empowered close to 150 individuals to stay a breath ahead and gain a peace of mind for the years ahead. Eligible participants undergo a free Low-Dose Computed Tomography (LDCT) scan, a painless and highly accurate method to detect small spots in the lung, including early stage lung cancer. For high-risk individuals, regular screenings serve as the first line of defence, as the early stages of lung cancer tend to be asymptomatic.

According to the Singapore Cancer Registry Annual Report 2022, lung cancer is the third most common cancer for both males and females in Singapore, accounting for over 13% of all cancers in males and almost 8% of all cancers in females. It remains one of Singapore’s most deadly cancers, and it is not just a smoker’s disease. 3 out of 10 in approximately 9,000 cases of lung cancer diagnosed between 2018-2022 are non-smokers. Women, particularly those of Chinese descent, tend to be more susceptible to the cancer.

Early detection saves lives. Stage 1 five-year survival rates can be as high as 92% whereas stage 4 five-year survival rates are less than 10%. Early detection and advances in targeted therapies are improving outcomes, but prevention remains crucial in the fight against lung cancer.

Eligible Are You at Risk? participants will undergo a free LDCT scan, where X-ray beams rotate around the body to produce a series of images, forming a complete picture of the scanned body part. The scan shows details such as the size, shape and position of any lung tumours, along with detecting areas where the cancer may have spread to. Its high accuracy has been proven to reduce the number of deaths from lung cancer in high-risk patients, compared with a chest X-ray.
