About this event

NUS Baba House presents Baba House Exposed, a limited-run tour that gives guests an exclusive and rare look into the empty house. As the house prepares for an extensive phase of conservation works scheduled to begin later this year for the next 18 months, we invite you to uncover the layers of care and conservation embedded in its architecture.

Witness how the House’s architecture comes “alive” through ornamentation — embodying its owners’ aspirations, values, and the diverse cultural influences that shaped residents and residence. As you uncover the stories embedded within its walls, discover the challenges of bringing these features back to life during the initial 2007 conservation works, and why after almost 20 years, the urgency for conservation has emerged again.

Much like the human body, how do we let buildings ‘age gracefully’? How does a heritage house confront questions of authenticity in the face of environmental change and loss of intangible heritage? In a city always looking forward, built heritage continues to anchor us in the evolving story of our shared urban past. Don’t miss this limited-time chance to explore the Baba House in a different light.

Due to the conserved interior of Baba House, tours are limited to 13 pax per session with advanced booking. This programme is best suited for adults and children aged 12 and above.

The guided tours will begin promptly at 10.00am. Guests are requested to arrive at least five minutes before the start of the tour.
