Big Data Analytics in FinTech and InsurTech: Industry Trends and Use Cases

State-of-the-art technology, automation, analytics, and the Internet of Things are all interrelated components in the ongoing FinTech and InsurTech revolution. Among these, analytics driven insights are fundamental for industries/ startups in FinTech and InsurTech domain to better serve their existing customers, acquire new customers, and disrupt business models. This talk will highlight some of the key big data analytics uses cases such as anomaly detection and fraud detection; and technology trends such as on-demand insurance, cryptocurrencies, and blockchain. Singapore, being a critical financial services hub, is at the epicenter of the seismic shifts that Asia (and perhaps, the world) is witnessing. We will discuss some of the important advanced analytics techniques, tools, and technologies needed by university students and industry practitioners to face this rapidly evolving industry, head-on and succeed. This wide-ranging talk will also provide some useful pointers for successfully leading analytics engagements in the industry from start to finish.

Dr. Vishnu Nanduri

Dr. Vishnu Nanduri received his Ph.D. and M.S. in Industrial Engineering with focus on Reinforcement Learning from the University of South Florida and subsequently served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Apart from his experience in academia and research, he has been working in the Big Data Analytics industry in multiple technical leadership roles. He was previously the Practice Head for Data Science and Engineering at IBM. He is currently a Senior Manager for Analytics at Prudential Corporation, Singapore. He has over 14 years of experience in unsupervised machine learning, statistics, and stochastic optimization. He has applied machine learning and advanced analytics methods in energy, IT, healthcare, telecommunications, and financial services industries. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of South Florida and is an Instructor for Analytics courses with experfy.com. He is an avid blogger at www.vishnunanduri.com
