Inclusive Workshop: International Artists from SIFA's Upcoming Show –
“Colony” : A True Colors Project
Hosted and Facilitated by Shahrin Johry in partnership with True Colors Project
Join us for an inspiring and inclusive workshop where artistry meets lived experience, led by two remarkable Southeast Asian artists with disability: Kim Socheat (Cambodia) and Arif Setyo Budi (Indonesia).
Kim Socheat, a contemporary and performance artist from Cambodia, uses his art to combat discrimination and promote inclusivity. As a key member of Epic Arts Cambodia – a non-profit that empowers individuals with disabilities through creative expression – Socheat brings both advocacy and innovation into his practice. In this workshop, he will explore the Krama, the traditional Cambodian scarf. While the krama has long held cultural significance, it became a symbol of forced identity and ethnic control during the Khmer Rouge regime,. Socheat invites participants to reclaim and reimagine its meaning through movement, memory, and storytelling. Arif Setyo Budi, also known as Bboy Onelegz, is a dynamic breakdancer and adventurer from Malang, Indonesia. After losing his right leg in a workplace accident, Arif turned his journey of recovery into one of artistic reinvention. Through b-boying, he inspires others to redefine what’s possible through movement. In his workshop, Arif will guide participants regardless of physical ability – through creative exploration using breakdance techniques that emphasize freedom, adaptability, and expression.
This workshop marks Phase 1 of a larger, evolving project that may continue into Phase 2: a collaborative performance showcased – Bridging Gaps Project in Partnership with True Colors Project.
By participating, you're not only engaging in an artistic exchange – you’re becoming a part of the beginning of a cross-cultural journey of inclusive performance-making.
This is more than a workshop. It’s a celebration of difference, resilience, and shared humanity. Whether you're an artist, dancer, student, educator, or simply curious, everyone is welcome.
Come ready to move, learn, and be inspired.
Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with powerful stories, embodied practices, and artistic collaboration that transcends borders and barriers.
