About this event

BUMBUM was built for a sound like BADSISTA's: the Music of the Global Ghetto.

It’s the sound of Gueto Elegance, born in the peripheral communities of São Paulo and uniting genres from techno and Chicago house to Brazilian funk. This is our kind of party: for anyone moved by the music, with all identities and all genders welcome.

BUMBUM brings BADSISTA to Tuff Club Singapore on 23 Aug 2025

It's an honour to finally host a true pioneer of the new Brazilian sound. BUMBUM brings BADSISTA, the project of Rafaela Andrade, to Tuff Club Singapore on 23 August 2025. A producer, DJ, and co-founder of the feminist collective Bandida, his sound is a vital force in queer electronic music that has graced stages from Dekmantel to the Mixmag Lab. Following his acclaimed album, his new EP CUTE BOYZ continues to explore love and self-esteem through a powerful queer lens.

BADSISTA is joined by our resident LOYBOY going b2b with VIX with the Pu$$y Fairies and surprise acts telling stories with their bodies throughout the night.

For Badsista, DJing and his productions complement each other in several ways. He explains his process simply: "I produce things especially for my sets, to be tested on the dance floor". This creative work often happens while he is on the move, such as on a flight, at an airport, or in an Uber. In addition to his solo material, he works on collaborative projects with a diversity of musical partners, including Kelela, Pitty, Jup do Bairro, and Linn da Quebrada.

Badsista's career was built with relentless dedication and a sharp ear. As he told a Brazilian newspaper in 2021, the songs he made during his music production course with "cheap headphones" already sounded better than those of colleagues with access to expensive equipment.

The current moment for local electronic music in Brazil is one of worldwide projection, comparable to when DJs Marky and Patife exported a strand of drum'n'bass amalgamated with Brazilian sounds in the 2000s. Thanks to the pioneering work of artists like Badsista, the cross between electronic music of global circulation and the beats from Brazilian favelas has gained strength.

He concludes that this new sound is an authentic reflection of its environment: "We made this great melting pot of things and references. It could only have been created by people who live here, who live what we live".

Recognised by platforms like Resident Advisor for creating "some of the most thrilling and distinctive dance music in recent memory," BADSISTA continues to push the boundaries of the new Brazilian sound.
