About this event

Arts • Other

The electonic music duo Schnitt—Amelie Duchow (Germany) and Marco Monfardini (Italy)—and Japanese calligrapher Aoi Yamaguchi present Calligraton, exploring the subtle and profound dialogue between sound and the art of shodō. In this work, two seemingly distant expressive forms—electronic composition and Japanese calligraphy—intersect in a shared language of gesture, rhythm, and presence. Yamaguchi’s brush moves across Japanese gasen paper in a disciplined dance that merges posture, breath, and the energy of each mark. The work invites viewers to witness the invisible energy behind each mark, to sense the intimate relationship between movement and sound, and to experience the space where time, gesture, and technology converge in a delicate, living harmony.

The event is part of the Asia-Europe Cultural Festival (AECFest) 2025 - Closing Curtain programme organised by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF). AECFest is a public arts festival that celebrates the artistic diversity of Asia and Europe by fostering dialogue and exchange among artists from the two regions. Presented by ASEF since 2018, the Festival features a wide range of programmes—including performances, exhibitions, and roundtables—that highlight the most compelling contemporary art forms and practices. Its travelling format, hosted annually in a different country alternating between Asia and Europe, actively engages local communities across nations.

The event is included in the official programme commemorating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Italy and Singapore and Japan — presenting unique collaborations between Italy and Japan.
