A composer renowned for his sharp musical wit, Alfred Schnittke wrote his Septet as a response to the then-popular Minimalist movement in music, but grew to dislike the piece as his parody of the style became too uncanny for his taste. Despite this, it remains a staple in the contemporary chamber repertoire.
Join students from the NAFA School of Music as they present the Septet along with the Singapore premiere of Tomi Räisänen’s Broken Flower, and world premieres of works by David John Roche and NAFA alumnus Goi Ywei Chern.
Programme
Tomi Räisänen: Broken Flower
Goi Ywei Chern: EGO for solo piano and ensemble
David John Roche: Endellion
David John Roche: Elegy
Alfred Schnittke: Septet for cembalo, flute, 2 clarinets, violin, viola and cello
