Climate Change is a Social Crisis: How social entrepreneurs can shape the climate response

The true tragedy of climate change is that the communities most affected by it are the ones that did the least to contribute to it. Extreme climate events disproportionately disadvantage the socially vulnerable. Issues such as poor health, food security and economic security are tightly linked to the climate crisis. This event will bring together social entrepreneurs and sustainability experts to shed light on the social dimension of climate change. In particular, the event will highlight how social innovators can help to ensure that climate action results in socially equitable outcomes.

Ibnur Rashad An innovator who cares, Ibnur founded GUILD to bring meaningful values of kampung spirit into the future through growing grounded innovators. Ibnur started young, publishing his first scientific paper and co-inventing a novel laser interferometer at the age of 16. Since then, he has created several international award-winning inventions such as the iBam eco-artisan bamboo amplifier and the Floating Chinampa farming module. He enjoys uniting nature, technology and community to create learning experiences. Ibnur has curated hackathons, invention bootcamps and prototyping masterclasses to develop solutions that seek to address community challenges and environmental issues. Ibnur graduated from the Engineering Science Programme at the National University of Singapore where he honed his prototyping skills. He has a wealth of experience across the 3P sectors: a sustainability researcher at the Housing and Development Board (HDB), an innovation analyst at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and ST Logistics, a STEM advocate at Ground-Up Initiative (GUI) and has worked at a mobile payments startup in Silicon Valley. When it is time to relax (a rare occurrence), Ibnur loves shooting with his traditional bow and arrow, hiking or diving into strategy games.

Mitos UrgelMs. Mitos Urgel is the President and CEO of WEAVE Foundation (Women's Education for Advancement and Empowerment) with an enterprise subsidiary Fair Trade Enterprise in Thailand. She is also the President and CEO of the World Fair Trade Organization in Asia, an alliance of over 150 Fair Trade Enterprises in Asia promoting justice in international trade. 

Mitos is passionately and actively working to advance the rights, status and dignity of refugees and underprivileged ethnic women and their children on the Thai-Myanmar border via education and economic empowerment interventions through Fair Trade social enterprises for more than 25 years now.

Chia Hou AnChia Hou-An (Dino) is a recent engineering graduate from Singapore University of Technology and Design and the founder of Seaforms. Dino believes in the power of reliable systems and products to create an efficient and sustainable future.
His achievements thus far have been to develop two smart products to increase the efficiency of everyday activities: Rapid UVC Chamber and Mimicane. The Rapid UVC Chamber reduces downtime of used mobility devices in hospitals, being able to clean hospital beds and wheelchairs in under four minutes. Mimicane is an autonomous and all terrain cane that provides an ease of mind to users who often live with the fear of falling. It can catch users and reduce the impact of falls to prevent long-term injury.
In his free time, he likes to pursue his hobbies such as 3D Printing and kayaking.

Julius AngJulius Ang is a recent architecture graduate from Singapore University of Technology and Design and the co-founder of Seaforms. Julius believes in the power of good design to create a more liveable and sustainable future.
Julius has developed two unique building systems: PVC pipe building system and paper tube building system. The main goal of the building systems is to empower greater civic engagement by allowing novice builders to build structures and shelters at a low cost. There is also a sustainable edge for the paper tube building system as recycled paper tubes obtained from the advertising and fabric industry are being utilized. 
His works has been exhibited at Singapore Archifest 2020/2021, Singapore’s annual architecture festival. He has also worked closely with the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) to revitalize the Somerset Youth Park through a two-month long installation.

M﻿arisa AgrisutAs a practitioner, facilitator and enabler, for the last 18 years, Marisa has been working with teams helping them understand, apply and leverage tools, frameworks and methodologies to optimise value creation. From consulting to co-creating, working with Fortune 500, to national ministries and non/not-just-for-profits.
Marisa considers herself an accidental entrepreneur. She discovered this during the 2009 economic crisis and in 2010, embarked on her first - people, planet, profit venture; challenging at that time, the negative perception of plant-based diets; enabling reduced-carbon and responsible consumption through a (then) pioneering circularity, systems-thinking, and purpose-led business. 
In 2015, relocating to Singapore, she found few-to-no organisations combining both sustainability and innovation. It was this that seeded her vision for The Inceptery - an innovation firm that focuses on shared value creation. Exploring the edge of conventional boundaries and assumptions, challenging notions of success in our current paradigm, they help future oriented organisations understand and transform to work to address the existential risk faced of exceeding our planetary boundaries.
Possessing the ‘ambidexterity’ so necessary for this practice she also spends time guiding, coaching and challenging teams; facilitating innovation labs, as well as continues to lead and participate herself. 
She is the lead for the Systems Innovation Hub, Singapore - a network and community, focused on democratising and bringing systems thinking and its approaches, into the orthoodox.
