Coding & Robotics: 2-Day Python Holiday Workshop for Kids Ages 12-16 [SOK]

By The Young Maker (Education Hub)

Overview

Embark your child's coding journey with fun, hands-on learning in The Young Maker's Python Holiday Workshop! Perfect for ages 12 - 16.

Begin your coding journey with Python, one of the easiest and most versatile programming languages to learn!
In this 2-day hands-on workshop (3 hours each day), students will dive into the basics of programming through fun, interactive exercises designed for beginners.

Over the course of the workshop, participants will:

  • Learn the fundamentals of Python syntax and how programs are structured
  • Explore variables, data types, and how to store and process information
  • Use Boolean logic and conditional statements to make smart decisions in code
  • Experiment with the Turtle Graphics library to create drawings and animations with code
  • Build their very own guessing game using the Turtle library to put everything into practice

By the end of the session, students will understand how to write and run Python code, think logically like a programmer, and express their creativity through coding.

Workshop Details:

  • 🕒 Duration: 2 days, 3 hours per day
  • 🎓 Level: Beginner-friendly (No prior coding experience required)
  • 💻 Platform: Replit & Turtle Graphics
  • 🎁 Takeaway: A working Python game and a strong foundation in programming fundamentals

Agenda

Topic 1: Getting Started with Python

Students will start the workshop by exploring the basics of Python, one of the most beginner-friendly programming languages. They will learn about Python syntax, how to write and run code, and the use of variables and data types to store and process information. Through interactive coding exercises, students will gain an understanding of how computers interpret commands and how logical expressions control program behavior. By the end of this session, participants will be able to write simple programs that use Boolean logic and conditional statements to make decisions — the foundation for all future coding projects.

Topic 2: Creative Coding with Turtle Graphics

In the second part of the workshop, students will be introduced to Python’s Turtle Graphics library, where code meets creativity! They will learn how to use simple programming commands to move a digital “turtle” on screen and draw colorful shapes and patterns. Building on the logic learned earlier, participants will create a simple guessing game using Turtle, combining conditionals, loops, and user input to make an interactive program. This fun, visual approach helps students see their code come to life — making Python both practical and engaging to learn.
