Improvised explosive devices are perhaps one of the greatest threats against armed forces and civilians. An improvised explosive device (IED), is “a device fabricated in an improvised manner incorporating destructive and lethal chemicals and designed to destroy, harass or distract”. It may include military components but is normally devised from home-based components.
