Trainer Profile

Kuek Ser Kuang Keng is an award-winning digital journalist. He is also the founder of DataN, a training program that lowers the barrier for publishers with limited resources to integrate data journalism and visualisation into daily operation. DataN has helped publications like Foreign Policy, NK News and Malaysiakini to strengthen their storytelling with data, visual and interactive components.

Keng has more than 10 years of experience in digital journalism. He was a journalist with Malaysiakini for 8 years specializing in investigative and political reporting. In 2013, he was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to further his studies at New York University's Studio 20, a journalism M.A. program that focuses on new media and digital innovation. In 2015, Keng was selected as a Google Journalism Fellow and a Tow-Knight Fellow. He has worked in several US newsrooms including NBC, Foreign Policy, and the International Business Times.

​Keng produces data visualization and interactive applications for publishers and advises publishers in data-driven and interactive content projects. He also develops innovative solutions to address problems faced by digital newsrooms. He is experienced in breaking news, live coverage of news, investigative reporting, citizen journalism and research. His passion is in combining his experience in journalism and storytelling with technology to produce sustainable and better content.

In this training, he will impart his knowledge and skills to participants through a step-by-step process and systematic road map.

What can I bring into the event?

Please bring along your own laptop / device in order to be able to participate in the various in-training hands-on activitie6 and working with data and visualisation tools. Do ensure you also bring along your power adaptor. The venue will have ample electrical sockets for you to charge your device during the workshop.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes, it would be very helpful if you could bring that along as proof of registration. Also, as this is a professional course, do bring along your business card for exchange and admin purpose. Thank you.

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

We accept subsitute in case you are unable to turn up. Please do email us in advance for notification (at least 5 days ahead of the workshop) as we will require time to prepare the workshop attendance certificate and delegate badge.
