Session 1: 28 Jul (Mon), 3-5PM
Topic: The relationship between executive functions and social and emotional development.
The relationship between executive functions (EFs) and social emotional learning (SEL) is bi-directional. Better EFs lead to better SEL outcomes and vice versa. Come join this Deep Dive session to understand more.
Participants will be able to:
- Understand the bi-directional relationship between executive functions and social-emotional learning.
- Learn why social and emotional well-being are so critical for the best executive functions and school outcomes.
- Learn strategies to support social and emotional well-being and thus executive functions.
Session 2: 29 Jul (Tues), 3-5PM
Topic: How can teachers detect signs of ADHD in their students and help students with ADHD to function better?
This session will differentiate between the type of ADHD that is primarily inattentive and the types of ADHD that include hyperactivity/impulsivity and it aims to help those attending better understand ADHD-inattentive and how to help children who have it.
Participants will be able to:
- Understand the unique features of ADHD-inattentive and its executive functions profile.
- Recognize behaviour as a reflection of brain development.
- Recognize how stress can cause a child to look as if that child has ADHD.
Session 3: 30 Jul (Wed), 3-5PM
Topic: The positive impact of motor skill development on executive functions.
Motor development and cognitive development are fundamentally interrelated. Learn about movement activities that can enhance executive functions and learning.
Participants will be able to:
- Understand the science linking motor development and executive functions.
- Learn how movement activities can improve executive functions.
- Learn how play and activities like dance, crafts, activities in nature, gardening, etc. can improve executive functions critical for success in school.
Session 4: 2 Aug (Sat), 9-11AM
Topic: How to improve executive functions in caregivers?
Executive functions are important for both adults and children. This session is for both educators and parents. Learn how to exercise better executive functions to better support the children in their care. Stress and its impact on executive functions will also be discussed.
Participants will be able to:
- Understand core components of executive functions in adults and children.
- Recognize how caregivers’ executive functions impact the development of the children they care for.
- Discover practices to improve executive functions in daily caregiving.
