Dia de Muertos Singapore 2017

Mariachi. Frida Kahlo. Tacos. Tequila. Sugar skulls - experience one of Mexico’s key cultural festivals, Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead), as it comes to life in Singapore this November.
Held at the iconic, colonial-styled old Beach Road Police Station (99 Beach Road), the event will see musicians and artists from Mexico and Singapore come together to honour lives of the dead, celebrating with traditional music, food, art. Gracing the event is His Excellency, Nathan Wolf, Mexican Ambassador to Singapore.
In conjunction with Frida Kahlo’s 110th birth anniversary, the event’s altar installation and exhibition is also a homage to the Mexican painter. All pieces are inspired by Frida Kahlo, and exclusive to this year’s edition of Dia de Muertos Singapore.
The event will have fun-filled activities for all ages, such as an augmented reality installation of Disney/Pixar’s upcoming movie feature “Coco”, as well as Mexican craft making workshops that both children and families will enjoy. Mexican cuisine is<A HREF="http://edition.cnn.com/travel/article/world-best-food-cultures/index.html" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> listed as one of the top 10 in the world</A>, so get a taste with 'Señor Taco's signature array of tacos and quesadillas, as well as 'Margaritas' Tamales (Steamed Pork with Masa Dumplings, wrapped with Corn Husks), Elotes (Mexican Street Style Corn on Cob) and more.
In response to the earthquake that struck a few weeks ago in Mexico, Red Cross Singapore will also be collaborating with the organizers to accept donations at the event to help victims of the tragedy.
Incepted in 2015, coinciding with the 40 year anniversary of bilateral relations between Mexico and Singapore, the nascent initiative resulted in a successful, full-fledged cultural fiesta that intrigued newcomers, and appeased native Mexicans and South Americans.
