Who is this workshop for?

Anyone who wants develop their understanding of how people think, and - importantly - how they think differently. It’s important to understand this sort of thing as it helps us get our heads around why some people seem to be on a different wavelength and why some people (from our point of view) “just don’t get it”.

Emotional Intelligence helps us understand the people around us but it also helps us understand ourselves too - and helps us manage how we think, act and react.

While this workshop is helpful almost anyone, it’s particularly powerful for people who are relatively new to their role or to a leadership position.

Workshop Summary

Emotional Intelligence (EO) has been found to be a better predictor of individual success that being exceptionally good at your job.

It’s also the glue that holds management teams together - or means they fall apart - and helps them perform better than they “should” do. We’ll explore a number of different models of EO, each of which gives us an understanding of different parts of our personalities. Some might be familiar but some won’t.

Workshop Aims & Objectives

We'll explore:

What EO is (and isn’t!) and how it’s made up
What short term triggers and problems we all suffer from
Tools for exploring our EO in any given immediate situation
Models for understanding our long term EO patterns
Assessment for our responses to pressure and stress according to our EO
Our default ‘communication types’ and how to use them in an integrated way
How to use EO to cope with people being difficult
Techniques for using EO to cope with very high pressure situations

Note: Although we’ll refer to lots of different models of EO, almost any one of which you can become qualified in formally, our aim here isn’t to do a formal psychometric profile - it’s to give us the tools to a bit of self-analysis and have a pragmatic, practical set of outcomes to help us work better with other people… and the other way round of course, too! ;)

Tutor Biography

Simon started his working life as a research scientist and moved into training when it became more and more obvious that what society needed wasn’t just new research to understand better how the world works, but better ways to spread that understanding so that the people who needed it could access it.

That scientist’s need to work only with what is researched and proven has stayed with him in his training, so you can be confident that what you get isn’t opinion, it’s researched…but Simon has also worked as an actor, an author, a playwright, a lighting designer for dance companies, a teacher and even a fire eater, so he knows how to make things interesting!
