About this event

This course is conducted by UTC fire expert with extensive relevant experience who was engaged by government agencies (SCDF, ESG), MNCs and insurance companies for investigating a number of high profile fire accident cases, lecturing "Vehicle Fire Investigation" for LTA and testifying in court as fire expert witness. UTC expert had been featured in Straits Times and MediaCorp TV programs for fire investigation and accident investigation.

This course is qualified for 14 SDU points (Safety Officer - SISO) by WSHO, 3 CPD (Fire Safety Manager - FSM) by SCDF, and 12 PDU (Professional Engineer - PE) by Professional Engineers Board Singapore (PEB). This course was funded by Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) with training grants (S$240/pax) for last three years . UTC had conducted similar course had for LTA /SCDF (3 runs) and loss adjuster company. Insurance companies, MOT, Singapore police, fire investigators, safety officers, professional engineers etc. had attended this course.

COURSE OVERVIEW

Fires, of buildings, vehicles, products, materials or industrial facilities, are very serious threat to public safety, which often caused significant economic loss to the society and danger to human lives.

This course will provide introduction to fire science and present investigative techniques as well as laboratory methods for determining the origin(s) and causes of different types of fires. Case studies will demonstrate some actual investigations on typical fires to help attendants understanding investigation procedures.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand fire chemistry and behavior.
  • Know the possible ignition mechanism, burn patterns and fire spread.
  • Understand damage mechanisms by fires.
  • Understand the process and the application of fire scene investigations.
  • Learn the typical burning characteristics of fires.
  • Understand the types of laboratory techniques available to evaluate physical evidence recovered from fire scene.
