FLASH was started as Flash Sports Club by a group of sporting enthusiasts and helmed by the late Mr. Justice D C D’Cotta to promote athletics and sports in Singapore under the patronage of the late E W Barker, then Minister for Law and President Singapore National Olympic Council. Other distinguished Patrons included the late Dr. Ee Peng Liang and the late Mr. Peter Fu, Mr. Kenny Goh.

It’s rich and illustrious history has been made by top athletes, expert coaches, a dedicated committee, and advisors. Through their relentless pursuit of excellence, Flash Athletic Club has become synonymous with champions and has done Singapore proud.

The current President, Mr Edmond Pereira, who took over the reins in 1981 has led the Club to new heights. Flash organized the 1st Mile Run in Singapore in 1985; the event became a major annual sporting highlight through to the 1990s.

In 1993, Flash once again made history by organizing the 1st Athletics Grand Prix Race in Singapore, drawing top tier sponsors such as Great Eastern Insurance, Pan Pacific Hotel, Asics, Ken Air and Oris Watch. More than 1000 participants took park in the event which covered 5 races in different venues in Singapore.

With initiatives such as the launch of the “Denis D’ Cotta Memorial Scholarship Fund’, through to honouring our nation’s top athletes by setting up the Athlete of the Year Awards for both male and female, Flash has grown from strength to strength.

Moving forward, Flash aims to revive athletics and bring back the Cross Country Grand Prix – a series of high profile cross country runs throughout Singapore. The Flash Cross Country: Bedok Reservoir on 21 January 2017 kicked off the new year. Other events planned a X-Country Run at MacRitchie and the Open Relays event in October this year.
