About The Workshop
Tampines is a city within city that many have come to know well, whether for its famous Hub with its above-ground running track, the commercial centre that stands shoulder to shoulder with shopping malls we have gone to at least once as a teenage jaunt, or the wild-like quiet of its Eco Green. But what stories lie hidden or close to us in Tampines—its streets, its people, its future? The short fiction workshop of A Few Little Worlds (AFLW) II invites youth and public participant to explore the past, present, and imagined futures of their own Tampines through the creative writing.
In the workshop, participants will be introduced to and guided through the genres of slice of life, historical fiction, and speculative fiction. Participants will draw inspiration from forgotten corners, everyday moments, and spoken stories seeking to answer the questions of, “What was? What is? What could be?” through their writing.
The workshop will include writing exercises, discussions on storytelling, and interactive activities like “Showing the Unseen” and “Future Relic”. Stories that participants will write may explore origins, secrets, parallel lives, and/or visionary futures—documenting a living and creative archive of Tampines through fiction.
About A Few Little Words: Memories of The Future
Following the success of A Few Little Words: Stories from Tampines and Beyond 2024, this second installment, A Few Little Words II: Memories of the Future, continues to build a creative legacy in Tampines, commemorating Singapore's 60th National Day (SG60). Through a series of engaging literary workshops running from July to November 2025, participants will delve deeply into our rich history, shared heritage, collective memories, and imaginative cultural landscape. These workshops will act as a creative incubator for the local community, encouraging residents to explore new narratives deeply rooted in temporality—honoring the past, celebrating the present, and envisioning an inspired future. Participants will reflect on personal and communal histories, drawing from lived experiences and inherited stories to forge fresh literary expressions uniquely representative of Tampines' evolving identity.
Part of Singapore Writers Festival 2025, the culmination of these workshops will be an anthology co-edited by Quarterly Literary Review Singapore (QLRS) and Vertical Submarine. This curated publication will showcase a vibrant collection of narratives capturing the distinct spirit, memory, and imagination of Tampines residents.
