Synopsis

This introductory talk shares takeaways from my experience working closely with youths in community and school settings. Participants will gain insights in getting to know their teens and how to engage them through bite-sized information.

The 1.5-hour talk is aimed to help participants to:

  • Getting to know at-risk youths (thoughts and behaviours)
  • Engaged vs disengaged at-risk youths
  • Possible ways and suggestions in engaging at-risk youths
  • Getting to know the youth lingo (participants can make a guess and share further)
  • Video on youth lingo
  • Getting to know popular social media apps used by youths (participants can make a guess and share further)

About the Speaker

Kristie has over 6 years of experience working with youths from diverse backgrounds. Kristie is a youth worker who is also trained in various counselling therapies to support her work with youths. Having worked with youths from residential homes to youths from mainstream secondary schools and post-secondary institutions, Kristie is familiar with the various issues youths face as well as the different approaches and ways to engage and connect with youths from various socio-economic background.

Kristie is currently a counsellor providing counselling services to youths in a school setting.
