 Modern Containers Terminals today are smart technology driven supported by good spatial layout designs, high speed adaptive equipment/resources and trained intuitive personnel to meet the customized expectations of customer leading to targeted revenue growth and ROCE. This Executive Workshop will walk through the key internal processes in a Modern Container Terminal and share knowledge of the current and potential gaps in practices and perceptions drilled down to workman level which could be addressed by managers and executives to improve operational performance and excellence. The 2-day Executive Workshop will consist of subject matters given below. Sessions will be video driven with interactive participation by attendees.  There will be exercises and material handouts. Participants are welcomed to seek drilled down perspectives on any topic outlined. Executive Workshop Outcome At the end of the Executive Workshop, participants will have comprehensive overview and understanding of internal processes and their relationships in a container terminal and understand all possible gaps in practices which hamper productivity and delivery. Describe the main container-handling activities that take place in a container terminal. Know the elements and components of the container terminal operations sequence. Appreciate how workflow imbalances can arise during container terminal operations and describe the consequences of operational bottlenecks and unproductive work practices. Describe the activities, operations and facilities of the container terminal and discuss in broad terms how operational functions in the container terminal are organized, managed, planned, supervised and controlled. Participants can explain the importance of terminal integration, and demonstrate how this is applied through the organizational structure of the terminal. Name the essential elements of terminal management and supervision. Explain the role of computerized terminal operating system in terminal operation. Participants will know the benefits of integrating, aligning and linking workflows in the container terminal to improve operational efficiency and productivity. Participants can harness ideas and recognize lapses in their workflows from the Executive Workshop and seek to incorporate changes to these into their revised workflows to improve performance and efficiency. Participants from Maritime Learning Institutions will have a broad view and understanding of workflows in a container terminal for better understanding and appreciation of the courses they are attending.  Workshop Leader: Francis Aurol

 Francis Aurol is a port professional with over 35 years of strong practical knowledge and experience as senior lead manager and consultant in ports/terminals, shipping, inland transportation (truck and rail), supply chain logistics and marine services in many countries handling containers, general cargoes, dry bulks, neo bulks and liquid cargoes, hazardous and non-hazardous.  Francis started his career ten years from 1970 in the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA) culminating as Traffic Manager a senior management position in charge of one of the gateways in the port. Thereafter, successfully lead managed and acted as consultant for ports, terminals, shipping and supply chain logistics in Singapore, South East Asia, Hongkong, India, Middle East and Africa. Francis Aurol has been project manager and super user for many IT based Management and Operations Projects in ports and terminals internationally which involved mapping and defining business processes, information systems with double stack approach collaborating with major IT companies such as Tata Consulting Services. Prepared SOP Manuals for ports/terminals. Carried out business development for new terminal acquisitions and technical and feasibility studies for many port/terminal prospects internationally for enterprises such as PSA Corporation and Pacific Basin Shipping, Hongkong. Headed for 8 years a network of shipping agency offices with country General Managers in South East Asia and Hongkong and jointly launched a new feeder service in SEA. Special experience and knowledge accumulated over these years to bridge business processes between ports and terminals as intermodal gateway, transshipment port, hub port with external stakeholder partners like Shipping Lines, Agents & Brokers, 3PLs, 4PLs, ICDs, Rail Operators, Land bridge Operators and Inland Haulers over large hinterlands. Francis graduated from the University of Singapore in 1969, a Certified Management Consultant by the Institute of Management Consultant (Spore/UK) in 2003 and a Certified Practicing Management Consultant by the PMC Board, Singapore in 2009.
