How does the community sayang (take care of) themselves and each other with the plants they grow at home?

About this event

Gardening is a part of Singapore’s DNA. What and how we choose to plant reveals where our values and priorities lie. Over a 3-month process, 3Pumpkins conducted interviews in Boon Lay Drive to understand the culture of residential gardening in the neighbourhood. From narratives that span across emotional, mental and physical to spiritual health, the research points towards a common value of sayang (care) for the gardeners themselves and for others.

How does the community sayang themselves and each other with the plants they grow at home? In 3Pumpkins’ signature social practice style, art and community action come hand in hand to answer these questions. Together with permaculturists at Cultivate Central, artist Isabelle Desjeux, children at Tak Takut Kids Club, local residents and stakeholders, a community children garden - Kebun Rasa Sayang - is built as a living installation to present and perpetuate our intangible cultural heritage.

Sign up for our guided tours to experience our ground-up action and community green heritage!

Kebun Rasa Sayang - Our Dear Children Garden is commissioned by 3Pumpkins, a community arts and social development agency that operates Tak Takut Kids Club (TTKC), a children and youth centre in Boon Lay Drive. TTKC aims to build a happier and safer environment for young persons from vulnerable backgrounds, creating innovative outreach and developmental programmes through collaborative and participatory approaches. It is a key partner of Comlink @Jurong West in the exploration of upstream interventions in integrated social support.
