ABOUT Health Career 101

Health Career 101 is an event for high school and pre-university students to see the real side of how it is like to study dentistry, pharmacy and medicine in local/private and oversea universities. Through forums, event booths, and sharing sessions, medical students will discuss common medical school myths, share real-life experiences and study tips, and answer any questions that parents and students have.

General Talk

Two is Better than One

Professor Firdaus Bin Hariri, both Dentistry and Medicine degrees’ holder and currently a oral maxillofacial surgeon at the University of Malaya. He graduated from University of Malaya with medical and dentistry degrees, and he passed his Master of Dental Surgery with distinction in the University of Hong Kong. For him, having dual degrees opened up more opportunities to pursue a career in oral maxillofacial, which would not have been possible if he only holds either medicine or dentistry degree. In this talk, Professor Hairi will share with you his motivation behind pursuing dual degrees, how it is like to study oversea, the challenges he faced, and how he overcame those challenges.

Getting into the right medical school is very important for those who want to pursue medicine course. You could end up wasting a few hundred thousands and get nothing out of it. In Health Career 101, we invite fresh graduates from different universities to share their experiences as medical students. The floor includes students from local, private and oversea universities. You will know which university is a better choice for you and get a clearer image on what kind of preparation you need to get into those schools.

P/S: Interview Tips will also be provided upon request :)

Dentistry Forums

Among the 3 courses, dentistry is the hardest course to get in because of the small amount of intake per year. However, if you are really up to the challenge, you could hear from fresh graduates from dentistry in this forum. They will share their experiences of how they have survived the past five years of student life. You could also get more information on the interview tips from people who successfully passed it before.

Pharmacy Forums

If are not keen on spending five years in school and yet still wish to become a healthcare provider, then being a pharmacist could be your way. They play an important role in taking care patients’ health, and yet not many people know how exactly it is like to undertake this career path. With us, you will know what is the daily life of a pharmacist like and which university provides the pharmacy course that suits you.

Conclusion,

Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy play important roles in maintaining public health, and all of them require tremendous amount of monetary and time investment. In fact, 10% of the students drop out from medical school each year as they noticed that the courses are not suitable for them. It is very important for us to choose the right course as our first degree.

During our panel session, we will give you QnA paper to write your doubts to our panelists. If you're shy, we also have personal booths for you to ask more details about medicine, pharmacy and dentistry.

Last but not Least,

Congratulations! If you're looking at this, you're one step closer to pursue what you want. As a proverbs goes, success is for those who are prepared! Get yourself prepared with the information and you're going to be more successful than your peers!
