About this event

In conjunction with SHF2024’s theme on Built Heritage, discover the lighter side of the Samsui women who built our nation, such as the often-misunderstood-story behind their red headscarves, the food they avoided eating, where they used to hang out and what special festival celebrations they held dear to their hearts. Join Pauline Fun, a Samsui-descendant, on a tour around Chinatown as she weaves her family story into the larger social history of these celebrated strong women figures.

Qixi Fest (七夕乞巧嘉年华) is an arts and heritage festival that aims to revive and reimagine the beautiful Qixi Festival that our foremothers had brought to Singapore since the 19th century. It is said to be once grander than Chinese New Year but has disappeared for over half a century. Our inaugural edition of Qixi Fest in 2023 attracted close to 40,000 visitors, and was featured widely on various prominent local and international media. Building on our track record, Qixi Fest 2024 happening in the month of August is slated to attract over 100,000 attendees with our specially curated programmes featuring Cultural Medallions, chess prodigy, the release of Singapore's very own Qixi festival pastry, and more!
