About this event

About the Event:

Join Dr Ng Seok Moi and Ms Sangeeta Deshpande as they explore and share with parents and teachers the impact reading has on children’s learning and language acquisition, the importance of fun for the engagement of children in learning, and ways to leverage on technology to enhance children’s reading experience. Jointly brought to you by the National Library Board and the Society for Reading & Literacy, this talk will also feature a panel discussion where parents and teachers can engage the speakers to delve deeper into these topics.

About the Speakers:

Dr Ng Seok Moi has worked for more than 20 years as a consultant to ministries of education, teacher education institutes, universities, and schools in Asia. She has advised language projects (from kindergarten to primary and lower secondary grades) in Singapore and Hong Kong.  Her research and publications focused on teaching English to speakers of other languages, emergent literacy, in-service teacher education and educational change. Before her retirement in 2018, Dr Ng was a consultant to the MOE STELLAR programme.

Sangeeta Deshpande is a mother of two, a storyteller at heart and a soft skills trainer by profession. As a professional, she tells stories to adults and children, designs and facilitates workshops on the art and craft of storytelling, the super power of communication and the power of personal narrative for teachers and corporate clients. She also has a decade-long work history in the IT industry. Apart from her first published book Parent By Chance, she has contributed to several publications and has edited a couple of books written by child authors too.
