Driving Efficiency, Accuracy, and Trust through AI

Singapore is at a pivotal moment. While hospitals, clinics, and government agencies have already embraced advanced digital infrastructure, the ever-increasing demands of patient care and citizen services continue to place immense pressure on resources. The nation is poised for the next leap forward.

The Ministry of Health is leading this charge and is set to implement advanced AI solutions by the close of 2025. This ambitious move is supported by a substantial SGD 200 million Health Innovation Fund, which will back initiatives like generative AI for automating documentation and imaging AI for early disease detection.

Simultaneously, public sector agencies are exploring AI-driven workflows to enhance service delivery, streamline back-office operations, and optimise resource use. VITAL, the central agency for corporate shared services, is a key player in this transformation. VITAL is using AI to move beyond simple robotic process automation (RPA) to automate more complex processes that require cognitive capabilities, such as analysing electronic CVs for recruitment. This approach also aims to empower non-technical employees to independently develop automation workflows using generative AI.

Despite this technological progress, significant operational challenges persist. Administrative workloads remain a pressing issue, with dedicated clinicians and staff spending large portions of their time on repetitive tasks instead of focusing on patient care and citizen engagement. Fragmented workflows and data silos slow down processes and increase the risk of errors, while rising service demands place continuous pressure on the workforce, leading to stress and burnout.

Furthermore, maintaining public trust, compliance, and security is essential. The sensitive nature of healthcare and citizen data demands strict adherence to regulations, robust safeguards, and ethical AI practices. These challenges highlight a critical need for innovative solutions that can streamline operations and support human-centric outcomes.
