Kantamanto Social Club proudly presents The Hybrid Panel Talk: Industrialising Upcycling? - Bridging Informal and Formal Fashion Futures Part of The Kanta To The World Upcycled Fashion Experience at Amsterdam Fashion Week 2025.
Join us for a boundary-pushing conversation exploring how informal upcycling ecosystems like Kantamanto Market can inform new models of remanufacturing and circular production.
In Amsterdam 🇳🇱: Moderated by Anabel Poh (Co-founder, Kantamanto Social Club), and joined live by Oscar Wentz (Netherlands-based upcycler and designer).
In Cairo 🇪🇬: Tuning in remotely, Ahmed Heiba (Glass Textile / The Shared Bag) will join the conversation from his garment manufacturing studio, alongside a special guest, to share perspectives from the heart of production in Egypt.
Together, we’ll ask:
- Can upcycling scale without losing its social fabric?
- What defines success: visibility, volume, or value redistribution?
- How can design systems accommodate unpredictability and one-of-a-kind creations
- How can fashion production aid in the end-of-life of garments?
- What type of knowledge, skills and expertise can be tweaked from formal fashion production to aid in the reverse supply chain?
- How do we avoid the extraction of knowledge and labour from informal communities without equitable return?
This conversation invites industry professionals, designers, policy thinkers, and curious minds to imagine new blueprints for fashion’s future, rooted in reciprocity, not replication.
Capacity is limited. RSVP encouraged. Walk-ins welcome as space allows.
