Ever wonder what it is like to be a Tourist Guide? In Singapore, the route to getting that tourist guide license isn’t easy. It can be physically demanding. Not only that – you will need to do a lot of research work – which also means you will need to read quite a fair bit. But it is not all doom and gloom. If taken in the right spirits, it can be fun, and rewarding too.
Once the license is secured, you can then choose your path – to be a Nature Guide, or a Cultural or Heritage Guide, or otherwise. Whichever path you choose, one can never escape the fact that not everyone may take a tourist guide too seriously. For many, a tourist guide is someone we meet only for as long as the tour last.
But the digital world and technology is about to change all that. Thus, a modern-day Tourist Guide can be much connected to almost all incoming or outgoing tourists. For the retired uncle or auntie, this can be a very rewarding retirement career, or hobby. For the young, or young at heart, this is indeed a very good hobby.
I invite you to meet me on the 28th June 2025, 9am at Dhoby Ghaut MRT. Upon alighting, take Exit B, and go in the direction of Orchard Road/Penang Road. I will meet you here at street level. You can recognize me with my Tourist Guide badge. Together, we’ll go through the thick and thin of it. We use Fort Canning Park as an introduction – because Fort Canning is almost certain to be a favorite assessment site.
This tour is specially designed for Tourist Guide trainees. Visiting tourists (both local and international) are welcome too.

- We do the worldwide practice of tipping at the end of the tour. Tipping guide as follows: $20 for a satisfactory guide, $20+ for a guide who exceeds expectations, and $30 for an outstanding guide.
