About the Speaker - Irene Ang

Irene Ang became a household name in Singapore (and some say Malaysia) as Rosie Phua in Singapore's longest-running sitcom ‘Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd’ and subsequently ‘Phua Chu Kang Sdn Bhd’, for which she was awarded Best Comedy Performance by an Actress at the Asian Television Awards. Irene also created her own stand-up show ‘The V Conference’ in 2007 and its subsequent yearly instalments which earned the reputation of “one of the most engaging stand-up comedy shows of the year” by channelnewsasia.com! Irene lent her genius to create the inaugural Asian Camp Comedy Festival in 2006 & 2008 which saw international acts convening in Singapore for the first time. She has taken on the role of Executive Producer for the first time in the movie ‘Perfect Rivals’, and was in Singapore’s highest-grossing movie, ‘Ah Boys To Men’. From her various acting roles, Irene’s affinity with the masses is evident when she was voted 8Days Readers' Poll's ‘Favourite Comedian’.

As CEO of Singapore's first and largest Artiste Management Agency, FLY Entertainment Pte Ltd, Irene was nominated as ‘Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ and honouree of Spirit of Enterprise. In 2008, she was named in the ‘Top 25 Most Powerful Businesswomen’ by The Executive Magazine.

Irene has devoted her time to social causes by lending her voice as Ambassador to various social campaigns like ‘Graciousness’ Campaign with Land Transport Authority, ‘Voice of Kindness’ with Singapore Kindness Movement, ‘It Starts Today’ Anti-Recession Campaign for Young Business Leaders as well as taking the seat of Creative Director behind the National Day Pledge Moment 2009. Her ability to connect via sharing her stories to success is evident.

In recognition of her passion and influence on various local communities, Irene was invited to serve as a Board Member, and Member of the Media & Publicity Committee, of the National Heritage Board from 2009 to 2011. Since 2010, Irene has sat on the board of The International Academy of Television Arts and Science, making her the first Singaporean actress in history to join this elite group of international media superpowers.

For her contribution to the arts and media industry in Singapore, Irene was awarded ‘Greatest Women of Our Time 2010’ by Singapore Women’s Weekly Magazine. For her contribution to the film industry in Singapore, Irene was awarded the ‘Outstanding Achievement’ Award (Movies) at the Singapore Entertainment Awards 2011, organized by Singapore Press Holdings.

Irene currently volunteers as a steering committee member and mentor for Action Community for Entrepreneurship (ACE) start-up Singapore, amongst other entrepreneurial organisation and charities. She is also the Artistic Advisory Board Member at Singapore Armed Forces Music and Drama Company (MDC), where she help improves MDC performances as well as to promote MDC talents locally and regionally as part of the talent development programme.
