Innovating within Planetary Boundaries

The Paris Agreement requires the 194 signatory countries to halve their collective greenhouse gas emissions to keep the average global temperature not more than 1.5 degree Celsius above pre-industrial levels. Yet, the likelihood of breaching the 1.5 degree Celsius threshold is increasing over time. This grand challenge requires collaboration amongst multiple stakeholders: nations, businesses, non-profits, and individuals.

One obvious solution that has emerged from this urgent call to action is exercising restraint in the pursuit of economic growth and regulating human activity. This necessitates creating awareness about the finite resources that we have on earth and making judicious use of those resources. An alternative perspective is the relentless pursuit of technological innovation and letting competition take care of the outcomes. Between these two solutions the answer is somewhere in the middle. How can we pursue both innovation and restraint? In other words, how can we innovate within the planetary boundaries?

This year’s ESSEC Capgemini Annual Roundtable format will provide us the opportunity to explore, connect, interact, and learn. You will get a chance to participate in short workshops in breakout rooms, where the discussion will be facilitated by our 2022 ASCP partners. Then, in the plenary session we will share the key findings of the workshops and discuss the key takeaways. The plenary session will be moderated by Andre-Benoit De Jaegere, Senior Executive Advisor for Capgemini.
