About this event
Have you ever wonder how traditional Chinese Pastries are made? And always wanted to witness how these pastries are handmade?
This is your RARE chance as we get the chance to go Behind - The - Scene to witness how some of these pastries are made. If you are in luck, speak to the pastry makers and find out more.
If you love exploring hidden cultural gems and seeing how things are made the traditional way, this one’s for you. Instead of a typical cooking class, you’ll step into one of Singapore’s last remaining heritage pastry shops, meet the passionate pastry masters, and hear stories passed down through generations.
This is perfect for curious travellers who want to connect with Singapore’s living traditions — especially those fascinated by food, heritage, and untold local stories. It’s also a lovely way to get a taste (literally!) of the pastries that once marked every important celebration across Chinese cultures.
Today, when most of us talk about High Tea, we will only think about the western pastries such as muffins, shortcakes, croissants and macarons. However, do you know there are many different Chinese pastries that are once enjoyed only by the Emperors and Concubines in the palace and later by our forefathers?
From the origin of the pastries to the symbolism of this pastries, we will get to know it all during this tour. Thats not all! We will be tasting these traditional pastries during the tour. As many traditional confectionary shops are slowly pulling down their shutters and vanishing from sights, taste them whjile you can!
Chinese pastries ranging from tasty Tau Sar Piah 豆沙餅, Mi Lao 米佬, Gong Tang 貢糖 to edible Ren Sheng Dou 仁生豆 and Gao Li 糕粒 are getting rare these days. Some you may not even hear or see it before! For some of us, we may have seen them in Chinese temples; however always puzzled what they are and meant
Sign yourself up and immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Chinese pastries and learn about the significance of these pastries.
