Integrating Process Safety into HSE-Management
Overview
Course Overview
Workplace safety covers a large and varied set of procedures, conditions, and environments; from personal (occupational) safety, which protects the individual worker, to operational and process safety, which focuses on the process and equipment that keeps hazardous materials contained.
Process Safety is a critical component of an organisation’s commitment to safety.
Process safety is proactive and provides early warning that critical controls are not operating as intended or have deteriorated to unacceptable levels and correct them before they lead to a catastrophe.
The emphasis of Process Safety is different from Personal Safety. In general, measures taken to improve Personal Safety have little impact on Process Safety and as a caution, over-reliance on personal injury rates to determine total workplace safety performance can lead to a false sense of security on the overall health of safety risk control measures. But they are complementary and hence it is important to integrate them so that organisations take a more balanced focus and manage total workplace risks holistically.
