During our introductory workshop, explore the job Harvard Business Review has dubbed “the sexiest of the 21st century,” and see how modern businesses are harnessing the power of data to drive innovation. Working with real-world case studies, you’ll:
- Learn what data scientists do and the types of problems they solve.
- Walk through the typical data science workflow and see how the pros identify powerful business predictions.
- Explore key tools and processes data scientists use to analyze, visualize, and model data.
- Apply what you’ve learned to a data set to produce your own recommendations.

Please note that in light of the current COVID-19 situation, the class will be livestreamed to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants. Please register as per normal and you will be sent a Zoom link to join the livestream session.
Preparation
Participants should have some basic technical aptitude, orientation to computers, and the curiosity to learn new tools.
About the Instructor
Divya Venkatraman, Entrepeneur/Deep-Tech Consultant
Divya started her career as a Software Engineer developing web-based applications for the US insurance industry while at Infosys, India. She received her masters and doctorate from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Including her graduate degree, Divya has been an ardent data science practitioner for close to 12 years making the journey from a signal processing engineer to a researcher to an applied machine learning/ AI engineer working on multiple projects across different industry verticals such as Energy (Halliburton), eduTech (CRADLE@NTU), Risk Management (Sense Infosys) and MedTech (AiHighway).
Divya specializes in processing time-series and sequence data including natural language and is a strong believer in the lean start-up methodology of thinking and execution. She also heads technology for an early-stage MedTech startup AiHighway Inc, where she is developing algorithms for an acoustic-based tool to screen for heart disorders at primary care clinics.
