Event description
A 1-day training introducing the data visualising tools to meaningfully make meaning for data interpretation and communication.

About this Event

Date and Time:

Friday 11 Dec, 9am - 6pm

Trainer: Tong Yee

Why this class?

The amount of information we each receive daily can be both daunting and overwhelming. Whether we resist the intake of new information, or whether we have no means of processing what we do take in, there are thankfully ways we can meaningfully make meaning of any data that we do choose to receive. Data interpretation and communication is very much about the lenses we can use to see whatever data is presented to us. Whether it be a speech, verbatim dialogue, a page of numbers, or multiple visual images, what are the ways that we can make new meaning of how we receive, as well as learn the ways that we can communicate in a way that others can understand?

Learning from some of the best in the field of data visualisation, The Thought Collective has taken these methods, contextualised them to local learning styles, and produced this one day course to communicate what we have learnt. As fundamental principles to the diagnosis and communication of data, we use these tools in our lecture design, workshop design, and experience design, and have successfully applied them for over 5 years now. But they also can be applied in interventions on how we work in meetings, with boards and councils, and in committees. We need to find better ways of adapting information to communicate better with the diverse audiences we are experiencing today, and also to create new perspective from old models or ways of seeing.

What will I learn?

In this training, we bring you practical tools that can help you:

  • Learn about visual architecture and how information is fundamentally presented
  • Learn how visual architecture is used in the design of experience, worked into meetings, or help design dialogue
  • Identify learning preferences and biases, and how info can be presented in a way that lands despite diversity
  • Understand innovative practice through case studies of how interventions were designed by redesigning information
