About this event

Overview of Art Therapy:
Art Therapy is a human service profession that utilizes art media, images, creative art processes and patient/client responses to the created products as reflections of an individual’s development, abilities, personality, interests, concerns and conflicts.

It encourages the person to express emotion and explore their problems using a wide range of art materials, enabling positive change and personal growth. The intention is not a focus on the artistic skills of the client but their engagement in a creative personal process.

Appreciating Art in Art Therapy:
Unlock the language of colors, shapes, and forms as we delve into the symbiotic relationship between art and healing. Learn to appreciate the unique power of creative expression and its ability to foster introspection and self-discovery.

Planning and Facilitating Therapeutic Art Sessions:
Immerse yourself in the art of planning and guiding transformative art sessions. Discover how to create a safe and nurturing space, guiding participants through their creative processes. Acquire practical skills to facilitate therapeutic exploration through art.

Understanding Art Therapy as a Profession:
Peel back the layers of Art Therapy as a profession, gaining insights into ethical considerations, professional standards, and the diverse applications in various settings. Understand the requirements and responsibilities that come with practicing Art Therapy as a profession.

A growing body of evidence suggests that engaging in the visual arts for adults with mental health conditions can reduce depression and anxiety, increase self-respect and encourage re-engagement with the wider world (The Straits Times, 2018). Furthermore, it is heartening to note that art therapy is gaining traction in Singapore, with organisations such as Singapore Association for Mental Health (SAMH) launching more initiatives to promote art therapy.

Upon completion, the participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
