Course Outline:

a. Introduction – brief history of jade in various culture

b. What is jade?

c. Chemical and physical properties of jadeite and nephrite .

d. Sources of jadeite and nephrite.

e. Mining of jadeite-jade in Burma.

f. Order of rarity of jade among other gemstones .

g. Treatment of jadeite-jade – B-jade, B+C-jade and C-jade.

h. Discuss testing methods e.g. infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscope .

i. Basic testing of jade imitations using loupe, refractometer and prism spectroscopy.

This SkillsFuture approved course is conducted online, over 4 sessions, 1.75h per session.

For an interactive session, you may like to purchase a gem kit, consists of 4 pieces of jade samples and a 10x loupe for a price of $83(worth $105, if bought separately).
