Event description

Stay injury-free as you gear up for a healthier 2018 with an injury-prevention & fitness development workshop, a special session for both adults who exercise regularly and families with children (aged 7yrs old to 13 yrs old) who are actively involved in sports. Through short lectures, hands-on exercises, and activities, you will learn what is the best running gait and how to build foundational fitness to exercise injury-free for life.

The workshop will be conducted by Dr Lim Yi-Jia, Orthopaedic specialist from Gleneagles Hospital and Andrew Cheong, Head Coach of SSTAR.fitness. Participants can expect a fun bonding session with new knowledge to gain. Open to both adults and children. (Scroll down to find out more about the speakers)

Come dressed in sports attire and running shoes! Dinner will be provided for all participants. Participants will also each receive a goodie bag worth more than $20.

Why is this useful:

Many parents enrol their children in sports activities, but children who specialize in a sport too early could develop muscle imbalances, raising injury risk at a young age. Children should instead build a strong foundation with a balanced fitness program, good core strength and develop a sound running gait.

What you will learn, whether you are an adult or child:

  • Correct postures and techniques to reduce the risk of injury

  • Fun exercises for adults and children to improve motor skills, posture, balance and core strength

  • Essential warm-up exercises and stretches for injury prevention

  • Elements that make up a balanced fitness program for total balanced fitness, designed in fun games and activities

About the venue

  • The Sports Hub library seminar rooms are fully air-conditioned, our exercise area is outdoors but under shelter and its safe regardless rain or shine.

  • Our instructors are First Aid trained and certified. We will have a medic on stand-by in the very rare case of injury. We are super serious about the safety and well-being of your children.

  • Public showers are available at the Sports Hub and OCBC Arena

  • Dinner and hydration drinks will be provided for all participants.
