Launch of Southeast of Now: Directions in Contemporary & Modern Art in Asia
Event Information
Description
The National University of Singapore Press is proud to be the publisher of Southeast of Now: Directions in Contemporary and Modern Art in Asia.
The journal presents a necessarily diverse range of perspectives not only on the contemporary and modern art of Southeast Asia, but indeed of the region itself: its borders, its identity, its efficacy and its limitations as a geographical marker and a conceptual category. As such, Southeast of Now is defined by a commitment to the need for, and importance of, rigorous discussion, of the contemporary and modern art of the domain that lies south of China, east of India and north of Australia.
The first issue will be officially published in March 2017.
Join us for the soft launch of Southeast of Now at the National Museum of Singapore as part of the Singapore Biennale Symposium (21-22 January 2017).
You do not need a symposium ticket to attend the launch but RSVP is required.
Special guests: John Clark, T.K. Sabapathy and Patrick Flores
A complimentary reception at the gallery theatre foyer will follow the launch of the journal, during which guests are welcome to mingle with members of the editorial board (Roger Nelson, Simon Soon and Yvonne Low) and contributors (Kathleen Ditzig and Matt Cox).
Additional Information
Southeast of Now will be published twice a year (March and October). Register with Project MUSE to enjoy free previews of Vol. 1, No. 1 (March 2017) and Vol. 1, No. 2 (October 2017). Subsequent issues (print and digital) will be available upon subscription.
