Introducing Tingkat Takeaways

We are Tingkat Takeaways—a project that was first set out to tackle food wastage in Singapore. But along the way, we uncovered something deeper: our ancestors, despite limited resources and technology, had developed ingenious food philosophies and preservation methods that gave rise to heirloom recipes we still enjoy today.

But with the rise of globalisation and overseas food trends, these treasured recipes are slowly losing relevance among younger generations. Tingkat Takeaways now seeks to reintroduce the value and charm of these dishes—making them meaningful, trendy, and loved once more. How do we do this? Through edu-tainment on our social media platforms, with fun facts and recipes shared about the heritage of Singapore

Programme: What to expect?

Now beyond the screen, we are shifting our edutainment outreach to in-person events. And in this upcoming event, we will be shining the spotlight on the OGs of kopi culture, the Hainanese. You will step into the world of Hainanese history, culture, food and fascinating fun facts which you probably never heard of before!

And coming along on this amazing journey, is Yong from The Urbanist Singapore. The Urbanist Singapore is where you can find many fun and interesting facts about Singapore’s heritage and urban space, from history to modernisation! And as a Hainanese himself, Yong is on a mission to not only spread the word about Singapore’s heritage, but also about his own Hainanese heritage!
