Lions Befrienders Symposium 2025
According to World Health Organization (WHO, 2022), the advocate for mental health has always been an integral aspect of health and well-being. The National Mental Health and Well-Being Strategy (Singapore Ministry of Health, 2023) projects the vision of an effective mental health ecosystem in Singapore where individuals with mental health needs can seek help early without stigma and will receive help readily for their recovery. It was acknowledged that an effective healthcare strategy needs to be holistic. Instead of focusing on the treatment, equal emphasis should be placed on preventive care, in alignment with the Healthier SG strategy.
In this view, Lions Befrienders strategizes to be part of this vision to contribute to the Health & Well-being ecosystem, encompassing collaborative efforts in the education and promotion of the desired health goals, by addressing societal driving forces with supportive communities of like-mindedness, raising awareness of the importance of health and well-being, and building resilience and coping capabilities in our population, especially in the ageing sectors.
Allied Health Professionals and nurses are often at the frontline of health care, directly supporting clients, facilitating early intervention, and delivering holistic care through therapeutic communication and client education. This symposium focuses on mental health and hopes to provide a platform to advocate these competencies through interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and professional engagement.
