How can sustainability create value for my company? How do I ensure my strategy aligns with business objectives? How can materiality help with developing a strategy? How do I decide what targets to set? What’s the difference between targets and KPIs? How do I ensure that my strategy is implemented effectively? Can sustainability return profits?

The business case for sustainable SMEs could not be greater. The health crisis has exposed glaring gaps in business continuity, supply-chain integrity, employee protection and more. Cognisant of the fact that sustainability can be overwhelming for the SMEs, UNGCMYB created The MAJU Framework to help SMEs identify and leverage sustainability as a source for growth and adapt to globalisation.

Through the use of the MAJU Framework, its various tools and guides, we’ve made it easy to take your first step by helping make meaning, investigate, create, implement and improve your sustainability journey.

The MAJU Series workshop is broken up into three separate sessions. Be sure to sign up for all the sessions to get a complete view of the MAJU Framework for SME Sustainability.

In this session MAJU Series 1 (Part 2) - MISSION: Ready, Get Set, UNGCMYB takes you through two important tools for sustainability planning.

Decision Making Matrix

Seldom is the decision to make the right sustainability choices easy and clear cut. This is often due to having to balance resources with ambition. The Decision-making Matrix is a simple yet effective tool that helps you evaluate and prioritize options by looking at social, economic and environmental dimensions using a sustainability lens. This leads you to make the best possible decision with the facts that exist and the requirements that the organisation considers important. As a result, a good rational decision can be made, which all parties involved fully agree with.

Sustainability Business Canvas

In order to transform into a sustainable enterprise, it is essential to rethink, redesign and rebuild to respond to new priorities in the changing business environment. Enterprises must take heed of the positive and negative impacts the associated activities have on the environment and the society, in addition to their impact on profitability. Continuing on the journey of discovery, participants are given a thorough walkthrough to complete the Sustainability Business Canvas. The one-page strategy is the beginning of your newly-envisioned business.

This session is part of the SME SDG Festival (SSF21) that runs form 8 – 12 November 2021. SSF21 is a forward-thinking and dynamic Small Medium Enterprise (SME) event focusing on enabling Malaysian enterprises to rebuild better in the new operating landscape – carbon neutral and resilient (sustainable) economy.

SSF21 features a 1-day conference along with 5 days of intense learning and development workshops tailored to meet the current needs of SMEs to assist them in building ESG competencies in business practice. As the SSF21 plays an important role in the larger agenda to transform and invigorate the local SME ecosystem, tickets to the weeklong SSF21 are entirely free of any admission charge - thanks to our supporting organisation and trainers whom have done so on a pro bono basis.
