“Masala Masala!” is a documentary art project that uncovers the love, loss and lives of spices in the community by artist Susanna Tan during her residency at the Indian Heritage Centre.

Through shared conversations, recipes and memories of spices from six community profiles, the residency journey follows through the role spices hold in the community. Underneath the heat and passion of spices lie anecdotes of loss that were overlooked in the ever-progressing society. Discover how the stories of loss whispered affections of love and resilience that turned spices into paints that continue to add colour and life into the community.

The project showcase will take form as a 3-week pop-up vending machine event (1st to 21st Feb) and spice-paint making workshops at the Indian Heritage Centre in February 2021.
