About MBSR:

This well-researched experiential course - developped by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in the late 1970s - will guide you into developing a different relationship with the things that challenge you in your daily life, relying upon tools you already have.

Week by week, and in a structured way, you will be progressively introduced to various forms of Mindfulness meditation practices to help you access the ability to become more self-aware, present, non-judgmental, patient and compassionate — towards yourself as well as others.

Instructor:

Leïla Parmentier is a Qualified MBSR Teacher with the University of California San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine, Center for Mindfulness and the founder of Mindfulness Paradigm.

She discovered Mindfulness after having suffered from burnout in her past corporate roles, and her practice has become an essential part of her life since.

She is passionate about neuroscience, psychology and mental health in general, as well as understanding the effects of chronic stress on the body, suffering from a chronic health condition and chronic pain herself. She is also a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200).

She believes that anyone has the power to transform himself, and her greatest sense of fulfilment comes from supporting others in their journey, by offering them a safe space to develop a greater awareness of themselves and build their resilience.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Mindfulness and Meditation?

Mindfulness is a state of the mind (i.e. state of awareness that arises from the meditation practice), while mindfulness meditation itself is a practice which consists of paying attention to the present moment, on purpose and in a nonjudgmental way (based on Jon Kabat-Zinn's definition).

Is Mindfulness Meditation a religious practice?

MBSR is a secular program. Although mindfulness meditation originated from traditional contemplative traditions - such as Buddhism - there is nothing religious about the practice of mindfulness meditation itself, and it does not require the participant to believe in any particular faith.

Do I need to attend all sessions?

Attendance to all sessions (including Orientation & All-day Retreat) is highly recommended since each class builds on the previous one. Sessions 1 and 2 are considered mandatory. Although, life can be unpredictable and it is acceptable to miss one or two sessions later in the course.

Are there any contraindications to attend the MBSR program?

People suffering from acute depression, generalized anxiety disorder, recent loss, severe addiction or PTSD may be advised to defer their participation in a MBSR course, and/or to seek additional support in the form of one on one therapy or counseling outside of the course. Contact us for inquiry.
