What if I told you that the only way to get happiness is to let it go? What if I told you that the more you try to fix what’s “wrong” with you, the more you will only make matters worse for yourself? What if I told you that expectations, judgments and stereotypes are the thieves of your life’s peace and joy? All of us have been conditioned to think, feel and behave in a certain way. And every day, we live our lives as if on autopilot, letting cultural norms rule over us and making us believe that there is a set way of living. Problems start when we find ourselves falling out of these norms. We begin blaming ourselves for not meeting expectations and goals and attribute our plight to the external world. We become withdrawn from life, feeling depressed, frustrated and anxious most of the time and resent it for being treacherous, mundane and challenging. We try hard to find quick fixes to resolve our unsettling emotions and difficulties, but only to realise that quick fixes and instant gratification are short-lived and unhappiness is here to stay. Life has become a stranger.This Mindfulness Support Group hopes to address this through reintroducing awareness, kindness and gentleness to life. As expectations and judgements work against mindfulness, mindfulness practices are seen as a learning process and a new habit of the mind. Whether you are a novice of mindfulness practices, or someone who has been practicing mindfulness for some time, this support group welcomes everyone who wishes to embark on the voyage of discovering new landscapes of the mind and acquire new eyes for the external world.
