Meet our speakers

David McIlwaine, Partner, Pinsent Masons LLP

David heads Pinsent Masons’ international cyber practice. He is by pedigree a litigator and has over 25 years’ experience of advising clients in relation to contentious technology and data issues. He assists clients with all stages of the cyber life-cycle, including cyber readiness, incident response, regulatory investigation and challenge, and subsequent litigation. The team has advised on a multitude of cross-border cyber incidents. David completed a secondment to the legal department of the National Cyber Security Centre (part of the UK’s intelligence service), where he advised on regulatory issues, including in relation to the implementation of the Networks and Information Systems Regulations (NIS), which affects organisations that provide critical national infrastructure.

Monika Sobiecki, Partner, Bindmans LLP

Monika is a specialist Data Protection and Cybersecurity barrister. She has a wealth of experience in all aspects of data and information law and is passionate about the protection of digital rights. She has handled a number of high-profile and international cyber incidents; people (individually and collectively) pressing for compensation for loss of their data; difficult and complex data subject rights requests; Freedom of Information Act (FOI) requests made by journalists and campaigners. She has been involved in advising on a range of issues including: GDPR audits; vendor management; biometrics and facial recognition; cyber and data incident frameworks (alongside technical experts); direct marketing compliance; cookies and other adtech; joint controllership; and the development and deployment of artificial intelligence.

Stewart McLaren, CEO, Pragma Europe

Before joining as head of Pragma Europe, Stewart accumulated over 20 years of experience in global director-level positions across Barclays and Credit Suisse responsible for Cyber and Operational Resilience, Business Continuity and Incident Management. Stewart has worked in the UK, Europe, US, India, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong & Australia and has managed hundreds of incidents ranging from Cyber PII breaches and ransomware attacks to earthquakes and nuclear disasters!

Mark Bird, Head of Cyber Incident Response, Pragma Europe

Mark has over 17 years of cybercrime investigation experience with the UK law enforcement, where he led many investigations into National and International Computer Misuse Offences which resulted in the successful conviction of many highly sophisticated attackers. Currently, Mark leads the Incident Response division in Pragma Europe, covering incidents from multinational companies to SMEs experiencing sophisticated cyber attacks.
