What to Expect
Why is a doula necessary, and why would you want them to be beside you during labour? Since the shift to hospital births in the 1950s, the role of traditional midwives and bidans have largely diminished in Singapore. Hear how doulas, like Blooming Births founder Chantel, serve to fill that gap, supporting parents through the birth process and work alongside healthcare professionals to advocate for the parents.
About Birth & Rebirths
What does it mean to be reborn? For some, it is a spiritual awakening—being baptised, embracing a new faith, or finding solace in age-old rituals that mark a transition into a different way of living. For others, rebirth comes in the form of reinvention—leaving behind a troubled past, overcoming illness, or finding purpose after loss. From ex-residents who have rebuilt their lives, to individuals who have found strength in faith, community, or personal conviction, their stories remind us that transformation is always possible.
Through facilitated dialogues with the social workers, and people on the fringes of our society we hope to provide opportunities for participants to engage in candid and heartfelt conversations.

About the Host
Chantel Kismet is the founder of Blooming Births, which she started seven years ago after recognizing a gap in childbirth preparation that supports couples together, not just the birthing mother. Passionate about helping couples build a strong, loving foundation before welcoming children, Chantel guides families through antenatal classes, parent coaching, and trauma-sensitive somatic work. Drawing from her own challenging birth experience—including birth trauma, postpartum depression, and relationship struggles—she deeply understands the emotional complexities of childbirth and parenting. Chantel is committed to empowering parents by reframing cultural norms around birth, advocating for body autonomy, and helping families heal through their experiences. Her work also supports those who have faced pregnancy loss, reflecting her compassionate approach to family care.
Olivia Lee, a mother of two girls and former early childhood educator, brings a deeply personal perspective to birth support. Inspired by her own natural water birth and the kind of care she hoped for, Olivia offers hands-on birth advocacy and doula support that is warm, respectful, and deeply intuitive. Together with Chantel, she helps parents navigate the birthing process with confidence and compassion— especially within Asian communities where doula support is still growing in awareness. Olivia works closely with medical professionals to ensure families feel safe, seen, and supported every step of the way. Her fervent dedication to empowering Mothers during their birthing journey takes center stage as she focuses on education, calming fears, and nurturing advocacy while gently reminding families that birth isn’t something to fear, but something to be embraced. With the right support, it can be a beautiful time of connection, celebration, and laughter.
